A Call to Prayer: The Fear of the Lord

At least 144 times, the fear of the Lord is mentioned in the Bible, with 19 of those from the New Testament.  Perhaps a lack of importance has been placed on this key Biblical admonishment.

WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Often considered the ‘book binding’ that holds the ‘pages’ of the seven spirits of God listed in Isaiah 11:2 together (the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord), the fear of the Lord is a crucial virtue the Lord is emphasizing at this time.  All other fears dissolve if the fear of the Lord is present. By contrast, all other fears rise (such as fear of death, of the future, or of failure) when the fear of the Lord is absent.

This awe and reverence of God is a doorway to many Biblical blessings as we embrace it.  Psalm 111:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Proverbs 22:4 says, “By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor and life.” As we pray for, seek, and adjust our lives to live the healthy esteem, respect, and fear of the Lord, we will live our lives in a way that promises understanding and blessings.  Let’s go through that open door.

SCRIPTURE

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.”

Psalm 33:8

WORSHIP

REFLECTION

  1. How can I exhibit more of the fear of the Lord in my daily personal walk with the Lord?

  2. How can I reveal the awe and reverence of God when I’m with friends or family?

THE CALL TO PRAYER

Pray for the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord to fall upon the nations of the earth, including the Jewish people who do not walk with God and the enemies of Israel.  May there be ’Saul to Paul’ type of encounters where terrorists become followers of God.
