A Call to Prayer: Israel in Scripture-Importance of Praying for Israel and the People of Israel
If we know the ‘why,' we are more likely to do the ‘what.’ Why should we pray for Israel?
WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT
When the people of Israel bemoaned being forgotten by God, the Lord responded, as recorded in Isaiah 49:14-15, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; Your walls are continually before Me.” The heart of the Father is expressed in various ways in Scripture towards the Jewish people, such as His Firstborn, Beloved, Hephzibah (My Delight is in Her), Beulah (Married), and Apple of His Eye. There is a particular calling - election (Romans 9:11;11:5,28) - on the Jewish people that the Gentile believers did not replace but rather are implored to ensure they are not ignorant of this ‘mystery’ (Romans 11:25). Finding oneself on the right side of God regarding Israel, the Jewish people and HIs prophetic purposes for them includes the Divine request of Isaiah 62 for the global church to arise as united, powerful watchmen intercessors who give God no rest until Jerusalem is a praise in the earth. A Great Awakening is coming for Israel as the heart of stone becomes a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). We get to be a part of it. May we all answer that call emphatically, “I’m in.”
WORSHIP SONG
SCRIPTURE
“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.”
Isaiah 62:6-7
REFLECTION
Have I taken my understanding of the Jewish people and the nation of Israel from a Biblical source or media and culture? What is my part in God’s call for Israel?
THE CALL TO PRAYER
Lord, help me not to be ignorant of the mystery in your heart of the call of Israel and Jewish people. Help me fulfill my role in Your prophetic purposes for them.

Five generations after David, King Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, faced the formidable armies of Moab, Ammon, and Mt. Seir. Outnumbered and doomed to destruction, King Jehoshaphat led the people of Judah in an admirable response. He humbled himself, called a fast, and gathered all to pray and seek the face of the Lord, saying, “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12).
